2013, the year of 'tera', which in Punjabi alludes to God/Rab, the divine. And yet, the divine exists in each one of us and helped us make of the year what we have ended up with - hopefully, for each one of us, love and laughter and many blessings and also some rain to help put the sunshine in perspective.
2013 has been a good year for me, personally and professionally. My daughter graduated from Primary to Secondary school, my husband zoomed higher in a workplace that he enjoys tremendously, my mother's health stayed steady, our family and friends enjoyed good health and we shared much mirth together.
Early in the year, Mehrunisa accomplished her second adventure and we set it on the path to publishing. Early readers remarked with glee on the book's cinematic potential and we decided to have some fun with marketing the book. In our zany drive, we created the world's first motion poster for a thriller book, and followed up with introducing our primary characters via video! Whattay lark! You guys loved it so much we thought we wouldn't be able to top it with a final Trailer. However, as they say, himmat-e-murdan, muddat-e-khuda, and Tom Alter liked the book enough to give a superb voiceover for the same! He brought the thrills of a spine-chilling chase in the tangled triangle of Ind-Af-Pak alive with his baritone and raised our humble effort to an entirely new plane.
The recent launch of The Hunt For Kohinoor was a great occasion to connect with friends, fans, readers and journalists. We took the opportunity to launch The Hunt For Kohinoor awards which recognize the true Kohinoors in our society, the women of India. In Mumbai, we recognized 3 such Kohinoors, and were amply supported in our effort by Anubhav Sinha, whose forthcoming production, Gulab Gang, is that rare thing in Bollywood, a woman-oriented film!
As I sit in the balcony of my room in Goa, the Arabian sea lapping the horizon, the crows cawing in some symphony, the tittering of the sprinklers spraying the lawns, the deep blue of the sea a comforting contrast with the green verdure, I cannot but be grateful for all that life has sprung my way this year. Thank you!
On that note, I wish you much happiness as we wind down the year of 'tera' and welcome 2014! May the divine force always be with you and within you.
